Fresh off racking up narrow escapes all over the solar system, Radrick Siegn returns to Mars hoping that he’s finally earned a quiet desk job. He hasn’t. There’s been a murder near Siegn’s hometown, and he’s tasked with cracking the case.

The catch? The murder happened two years ago. Siegn must follow the murderer’s cold trail across Martian deserts and into the grimy corners of domed cities and open-air settlements, in search of the most elusive criminal he’s ever chased. His task is complicated by a colleague from the victim’s own department of the Fleet, who has personal reasons for seeking the murderer… and who’s unsettlingly beautiful.

Mars never was a law-abiding kind of place. But with resource thieves, corrupt Fleet officials, and homegrown thugs all competing to end his life, Siegn’s never known it this bad. What can he do against criminals so powerful that they’ve infiltrated the Fleet itself?
